Awards and Trophies

Awarded by your club peers, these trophies are a tangible, durable reminder of specific achievement, and serve as a recognition of excellence or otherwise on a club outiing.

Alan Race Memorial Photograph Competition

First awarded in 2013, this is an annual competition open to all club members. The following rules and regulations apply:

1. Valid photos for entry to this competition must be taken by a club member while on a club outing and during the current calendar year.
2. All photos are to be of an 8 x 10 size. Either landscape or portrait. No other size will be accepted.
3. The principal judge will be Marlene Race. If Marlene is unavailable then the current trophy holder will become the judge. Should this person be unavailable the contest will be judged by the President and one other club member. The decision of the judge will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
4. All entries need to be accompanied by a completed entry form which is available from the photo competition coordinator or download here. Entry into the competition is taken as acceptance of these rules and regulations.
5. In the interest of fair play photo shop enhanced photos are not legitimate entries.
6. All entries will be displayed and judging will take place at the Christmas function.


The Barry Austin Memorial Award

This Trophy was first awarded in 2017, dedicated to the memory of Barry Austin.
It is awarded to a member who is ranked near the middle of the Point Score Rankings, who has made a significant contribution to the Club or a Club event, and who has shown an interest in becoming more involved in the Club.
It is intended as an encouragement award.

Editors Award

Awarded by our club magazine editor to the club member who contributes the best trip report during the year.

Fishing Trophy

Awarded to the member who successfully landed the best fish during the annual club fishing trip or, in the event of nothing caught, the best one that got away ???

Funkhana Trophy Men

Awarded to the club man with the best average time in the events.

Funkhana Trophy Ladies

Awarded to the club lady with the best average time in the events.

The Golden Shovel Award

This is the most prestigious trophy that can be ‘won’ by a GRORC member.
The Golden Shovel is bestowed on the member who :
a) most spectacularly needs recovering.
b) the first member who has to be recovered from a self inflicted predicament.

The Men’sGolf Weekend Award

The golfing Men’s event is held annually. It is usually run in conjunction with a club long weekend trip.

The Ladie’s Golf Weekend Award

The golfing Ladie’s event is held annually. It is usually run in conjunction with a club long weekend trip.

The Gourmet Dinner Award

The gourmet dinner event is held annually and is usually run in conjunction with a club trip. Camp ovens around the campfire.

GRORC Squawk Trophy

A GRORC Squawk is a humorous or witty remark made by a club member on a trip.
It may be something a member has commented on over the radio or around the campfire to the hilarity of all present and if a blooper, the abashment of the utterer.
The trophy is presented annually at the Christmas party.
Any material which would offend delicate ears is of course denied.

Highest Points Award

Awarded to the member who has through the year accumulated the highest contribution to the club in addittion to the highest attendance at meetings and on club trips.

Turnaround Tours Trophy

Mostly awarded to trip leaders who unwittingly take us on the “scenic route”.
